At the age of 24 años, young filmmaker José Luis Rugeles from Bogota saw in 2015 how his movie “Alias María” was selected at Cannes Festival. In his long-awaited subsequent film, he explores the complex creative process of a legendary musician and his obsession with vindicating the African culture of his ancestors. The movie plays two trump cards: a wonderful sound track and the chameleon-like composition by Jhobatibn Narváez, along with the performance of the most internationally famous Colombian actress Angie Cepeda in her double role as spouse of the musician and a prostitute.
SYNOPSIS
This biopic intends to find answers to the question: “Who was Joe Arroyo?” The Colombian musician was a genius of salsa and tropical music, but behind his fame and public image also hid a vulnerable and complex individual tormented by his inner ghosts, a drug addict, and a womanizer incapable of keeping at his side the woman he loved.
