Having become a mega-star thanks to the television series «Aquí no hay quien viva,» actor Fernando Tejero tackled his first leading role in this urban comedy, a clear heir to the slice-of-life comedies of the 1960s. In addition to working as a stock clerk in a supermarket, the protagonist, a textbook loser, is the substitute goalkeeper for his neighborhood’s soccer team in the outskirts of Madrid. His life takes an unexpected turn when the official goalkeeper gets injured and he has to face a penalty that could change his destiny. However, due to an invasion of the soccer field by the public, the penalty is delayed by a week… seven long days during which his existence will undergo a radical transformation, turning him into the star of the neighborhood.
Fernando is the reserve goalkeeper for a regional Division Three soccer team. He has not played one single minute of the whole season. But during the final game of the league, the regular goalkeeper is injured and the referee calls for an unfair penalty shot against them. The indignant fans invade the playing field, interrupting the game. The penalty shot is scheduled for the following week and Fernando, the reserve goalkeeper, will have to guard the goal. Now everything depends on him. If he blocks the penalty shot, the team will rise to Division Two for the first time ever. If he doesn’t, a whole year’s efforts will be wasted.
THE LONGEST PENALTY SHOT IN THE WORLD is the story of that week. For seven days, Fernando is a local hero and finally, the girl of his dreams gives him a chance.
