Screen can exclusively reveal the first trailer for Swiss director Jenna Hasse’s Berlinale Generation Kplus competitor L’Amour du Monde (Longing For The World), which Spain’s Latido Films has boarded for international sales.
Latido has already inked an early deal for distribution of L’Amour du Monde in Germany with Mindjazz Pictures. The distributor released Christine Kugler and Günther Kurth’s Generation 14plus title Kalle Kosmonaut last year.
Set on the shores of Lake Geneva, Hasse’s feature debut centres around gentle fourteen-year-old Margaux, rebellious seven-year-old Juliette and Joël, a fisherman who has just returned from Indonesia after his mother’s death. The lake becomes a haven of peace until reality reimposes itself. The cast includes Clarisse Moussa, Esin Demircan and Marc Oosterhoff.
L’Amour du Monde is produced by Olivier Zobrist and Anne-Catherine Lang at Swiss Langfilm and is co-produced with Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) and Galão Com Açúcar Film, also from Switzerland.
The feature is a follow-up of Hasse’s shorts Août and Soltar. Hasse presented her first short Août at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight in 2014 and won the Silver Hugo at the Chicago festival. Hasse both acts in films and theatre, and directs.
“We were flabbergasted with L’Amour du Monde . It is delicate, truthful and offers magnificent performances from its young cast which perfectly blend with those from the adults. We cannot wait for the international market to discover a talent like Jenna Hasse, who can echo first Celine Sciamma’s works but with a voice of her own,” Latido’s head of acquisitions Óscar Alonso said.
Latido managing director Antonio Saura stressed the significance of the film playing in the Generation Kplus sidebar at the Berlinale, noting that Colm Bairéad’s The Quiet Girl – which is nominated in the Oscar’s international feature category – first debuted in Kplus.
Latido has handled sales of several Generation Kplus winning titles in recent years – Pepa San Martín’s Rara (2016), Fred Baillif’s The Fam (2021) and Clare Weiskopf & Nicolas van Hamelryck’s Alis (2022).
